Incandescent bulbs contain an even higher amount of mercury and are more widely used than CFL’s.   Factor in that CFL bulbs and incandescent bulbs last less than half as long as LED bulbs and you have an ongoing disposal and mercury emission issue.  With LED bulbs, there is no special disposal procedure and no worry of lingering after effects on the environment from transport and use.
